none of my research said whether or not they do, and I don't like the look of the eggcrate on my reef, so I was wondering if I needed it, as I just picked one up today.

I just saw on RC that someone said to make sure your tank was covered. At least one person there said they were jumpers.

I have a purple firefish and an uncovered tank. He jumped a couple times at first but I noticed that once he had his bolt hole. He stopped jumping.

ALL fish can be jumpers.
Just because a web site dont mention a tight fitting lid,dont mean a fish wont go airborne.I myself have had one foxface go carpet surfing and a mandrine that would jump into the overflow.
