do i clean my skimmer?

ok like the title asks, should i clean my skimmer?

i clean the collection cup every 3-4 days as needed the skimmer body i leave alone(as i have heard people say) , i have noticed that what i think is algae is growing here, in that little space

the algae (or atleast i think its algae looks like hair algae , long and stringy as seen here >>>>

i have used a turkey baster to blast the algae and its eventually picked up by the filter

should i let it be ?

I clean my Skimmer completely every 6 months. Pull it out and scrub the gunk out, take apart the pump and clean it as well.

but doesnt that cause a new break in period?

I clean mines completely every few months also...it hasn't effected the efficiency of the skimmer after the cleaning, and it only took it a few hours to break back in afterwards.

I read soaking in vinegar/h2o will get most of the gunk out, haven't done it personally.

The only thing I don't like about my LifeReef Skimmer is the fact that I cant take the skimmer body apart and clean it - if yours come apart it's probably a good idea to tear it down and do a full cleaning a few times a year
