Hey all,

Was just curious if anything needs to go into the tank besides water and salt? Like can a reaf tank be maintained just fine without using stuff like for mg,alk....etc... TIA

You should never add any supplements without testing the need for them. Your salt mix should have all the supplements your tank will need.

As Nanna said, always test before so you know what and how much you may need. Depending on what types of coral and how much you may need to dose as they use the minerals in the water.

With a good water change regimen, most parameters will likely be in line and not have to be dosed.

The exceptions to that rule are usually Alkalinity and Calcium - but you shouldn't blindly dose those either. Get yourself a test kit and monitor your levels, and if necessary dose accordingly. You'll likely need Calcium if you keep a lot of LPS/SPS or Clams
