or is a protein skimmer not nessecary

Alot of people don't even use a skimmer on a nano.The fission isn't a good skimmer.Keep up with regular water changes and you should be good.The choice is really up to you.

T-5 here to. With halide you would run into heat issuses were as the t-5s run cooler.

Reefs right you dont need a skimmer for a tank that small, but one will go along way. If you dont have the cash right now just get the light and wait to buy the skimmer, and in the mean time keep up on water changes.
