Quick question on Halimeda algae.

Good or bad?

It popped up in my tank about 3 months ago, no idea where I got it but it coincided with the last of my hair algae disappearing. I don't mind the look of it, but am getting conflicting reports on whether I should leave some in the tank or not.

I'm culling some of it later as it is restricting light to my zoa's , but otherwise it is all contained in the one area.

I will post a photo in a few hours when the tank lights come on.

I would leave it if its not a nuisance. Many people out it in their Refugium for nutrient export. Its a calcified Macro, so you should be able to keep it in a tank with herbivorous fish without it being eaten.

I would only remove it if are trying to grow lots of stony corals. They take up a lot of calcium!

Drs Foster Smith had good things to say about Halimeda but keep cal at good levels.
