hermit crabs

has anyone ever had hermit crabs eat polyps? I'd originally thought my turbo snails were crawling over my yellow and clove polyps and knocking them loose. Out of two dozen yellows I've only got 5 left. Now the colony of clove's that had 3 or 4 dzn now have a blank spot on the rock right in the center. I noticed on of the hermits crawling all over them but couldn't tell if he was eating them or just picking stuff all around them. They seem to be healthy. They've got 3 runners that each have a little bump that looks like a new polyp starting to form.

It is possible that the hermits are eating them. Crabs tend to be opportunistic feeders. If they are hungry, they could be eating them. Or they could be eating stuff around them and cutting them loose in the process of getting crud.

I personally don't have hermits for this reason.
