Carl Sagan said that probably all intelligent life follows the same pattern: their technology evolves until they discover the power of the atom and many other potentially dangerous technologies and then they wipe themselves out. Maybe this is why SETI has heard nothing after scanning the heavens. I hope Sagan was wrong but if he's right I suggest that we party hard in what time we have!

i'm sorry but as a generalization, people are stupid. Ever been on a highway, or watched the news?
Never underestemate the stupidity of the public, especially when thier given 4000lb machines that travel and a high rate of speed.
as for the article, i'da never believed it if someone off the street had just told me that, but i guess its just further proof how overwhelming the human presence is on mother nature.
