Light on sump

Hey there, maybe a stupid question but I was wondering if anybody puts a light on there sump. I have some live rock in my sump and I was looking at it today with a flashlight and it looks like there might be small things trying to grow on them, looks like little shrimp, sponges, etc. Would it make any sense to put a light on a timer or would I be doing more harm then good

Unless you're trying to grow some kind of macro algae in there, a light would do nothing but grow algae down there. The things that are growing in your sump now started growing without any light, they'll continue to grow without it.
