Is 346W lighting to much for a 27g tank?

I like the idea of having separate controlling ability for the T5s which I will use for dawn/dusk lighting but even if I dont use them all at once the MH is 250W which is 9.25 watts per gallon (I think) over my tank, is that to muchor is my math wrong?

346w is overkill for 27 gallons.. Plus it might heat your tank up.What type of corals are planning to keep? That will give you a better idea of how much light you need. I would go with a 4 bulb T-5 fixture with some ATI bulbs.

It is certainly a lot. Most corals can be acclimated to that much lighting however you'd have to watch out not to bleach them. It might be more trouble than it's worth. You're also going to have the heat issue. Have you looked at a fixture with just T5s?

I think if you could find a similar fixture to that with only a 150w MH you'd be much better off.
