couple of questions First do the say to keep the mh 7- 10 in off the surface because of water temp? Second I did have 2 heaters on my 265 but since i got my mh i took one off, any way my water temp drops to 77 at night from 79-80 is that ok? I only bought 2 - 175 mh because thats all i could afford. So right now i have 4- 72 in vho 2 blue and 2 white and the mh bulbs are 14000-15000. (I know i should have 3)any thoghts.

I'd try to keep the temp as stable as possible. However a 2 degree flux isn't all that bad IME.

Since i have no problem with heat, Do you all think it ok to lower my lights closer to the water. Or is 3in. just to close for mh

my mh are 6 inches from water

As long as your lights are shielded from water splash you can get quite close, however, I would recommend at least 6 inches from the water. just my thought on it.

at 6 inches i get some salt splash on glass covers over mh lights but i just get new glass at hardware store and replace them.

just be careful without a chiller your tank can get warm with halides on top of it.
