My fish tank is shocking me ?

My 225gal saltwater tank is shocking me when I put my hand in it. I'm having some nitrate problems right now. There at 40ppm. They were at 160ppm. I had three small heaters in my sump and I thought they were the problem but when I took them out it still shocked me. My fish are all still living. Even when I touch my valve to turn off my sump it shocks the crap out of me. Any ideas as to what is going on?

It's stray voltage -- you need to fix it. It's fatal to the animals in your tank. Read this:

Once you identify which piece of equipment it's coming from, get rid of that equipment. And you should buy a grounding probe for each of your tanks from now on.

A Grounding Probe will only cost you about $20. Most LFS carry them.

I have a couple questions. Where would I ground it to? And isn't it metal?

It plugs into the wall. Electricity will take the path of least resistance, so adding a grounding probe that plugs into the wall (Must be a grounded wall plug) will keep the electrical current from traveling through your tank and straight to a known ground.

Something like this is what you should be looking for.
