My tanks cycle

I did some water test today and this is what i got. Ammonia closer on the scale to zero than any other color. 0 Nitrites and maybe 2.5 nitrates. My question is i never saw a spike in ammonia or nitrites or nitrates for that matter. Ammonia was up to about .5 at the highest i saw. Is my tank not cycling or is it almost done or what? I through in a nice pinch of flake food about 5 days ago. But the tank had already been running for about a week before that. Any ideas?

Im also getting a pretty big diatom bloom. Does this have anything to do with the stage of the cycle?

Cycling is done when ammonia and nitrites are 0...you may or may not have detectable nitrates...I had 5ppm of nitrates when mine was done cycling.

The diatom bloom comes with any new tank, so congrats :D

I read that when the bloom is going that its a good time to add a few blue leg hermits and a couple nassarius snails. Is this true?

As long as your ammonia and nitrites are 0, you can add your cuc :)
