New Feather Duster Problems

Reefing newb
Bought a Hawaiian feather duster yesterday and put it in a low/medium flow with a little bit of light. This morning i woke up and i could only find the tube. The actual worm wasnt in there and i couldn't find it. About 8 hours later i get home from school and i find the feather duster attached to some rock in a shaded area. Can they live without there tube until he grows a new one? Also he isn't getting very much light there.

Dang thing was expensive and i can barely see him:frustrat:

They dont require any light, they are filter feeders.

They dont have a good survival in captivity though, we usually dont have enough food for them in our tanks.

But i would move his tube to the area he decided he likes better.
