Hello, after reading some more threads today i feel like i added the lion fish to early, but the local fish store said i was ready to move forward, i posted a short video for you all to look at. Day 2 the lion fish is swimming all over and seems happy all my water test seems perfect, Brought water to the local fish store and they also said it was good. Bali live rock was cured if thats what you call it for 2 mths. I got very little brow hair on the rocks but hasnt taken over my tank. Gonna start to run a skimmer in about another week or so. I dont no what do you all think!

Off to a good start! I would have skipped the CC as it tends to trap crap and produce nitrates. How much flow is there? I saw 1 powerhead, is that the only one?

I have 2 big power heads not sure on the flow but ill add that here in a few hrs, also i had another small one which i took out until the lion fish gets a lil bigger, as he was being thrown around and he is very small still

I would get the skimmer running as soon as you can. It can take a week or 2 for it to break in.

I would also like to know if you saw any type of cycle? If not you may need to be watching all your perimeters very closely until the cycle is complete.

Good luck looking go so far!

I think it cycled, ammonia, nitrite are zero in the tank and I check every day sometimes a few times a day. Im getting a small tank ready just in case i need to move the fish.

I think that you are good to go. Rereading through is sounded like your rock has been in water for at least 2 months. If that is the case the amount of bacteria contained in them will be sufficient and you may not even see anything spike.

I would be concerned about the lack of flow as you proceed from here. If you have areas lacking water movement algae will grow into those spots first. Its easier now to remedy the issue then trying to battle algae down the road. Your lionfish will learn where to swim and where not to swim to avoid the strong current.

Thanks for the tips I will go and buy the skimmer and get it going also I'm thinking of getting a wave maker.

Looks great! Do you have a sump? If not check out the reef octopus hang on the back skimmers. They're awesome.
I love a nice, new tank, it's like a beautiful clean slate and I can't wait to see what you're going to do with it. what are your stocking plans?

Hello and thanks for looking. I have a proflex sump model 2, just need to go and get my skimmer this weekend, prolly get a 200 gallon skimmer for my 72 gallon tank, I wanted to wait a lil bit before i got the skimmer and just do 2 day water changes for the first few weeks. But i can also see a wave maker is needed for the tanks too, which I also will prolly buy soon. As for stocking I'm not really sure yet, but a frog fish is on the list or toby puffer and 100% for sure getting a red tube anemone is my fav !, and maybe a rock fish. Never would I ever think I would love this hobby but I woke up one day and just started reading up on it then bam I started one lol

Anemones can be very difficult to keep. Just be prepared. They require very high lighting conditions and extremely good and STABLE water parameters. If they die, they can and often do take the whole tank out with them in a crash. They're usually only recommended for tanks that have been set up for 1 year+...just so you know.

Will this be a reef tank setup or a FOWLR?

Tube anemones are one of the few non-photosynthetic anemones, so lighting wouldn't be an issue for them. :) They have been known to catch and eat fish, though, so keep that in mind for any fish you stock that may be small enough for them to grab.

Was looking to go reef setup, also these are my pumps....Koralia circulation and wave pump two of them at 750 gph and one at 425 gph my lights are Aquaticlife T5 HO with leds and fluorescent lamps 48 inch with timer built in. I have no problem taking my time to get the tube anemone, but its gonna be a goal for sure
