I'm looking for a new skimmer for my 30 gallon tank. It's a toss up between Octopus and the Aqua C Remora. I want it to be quiet and visually appealing but still do a good job skimming the tank. How much do they stick out above the tank? Whats up with the "good foam"?? Currently running Fluval 205 canister filter and wondering if I still need this or is it causing more problems than its worth?

Yes a canister is more trouble than it's worth. It's impractical for tanks with even an average bioload. The Octopus IMO beats the Remora in looks cuz it has an Octopus engraved into the collection cup cover. Octopus is also a good quality skimmer for the money. Do you have a sump or were you thinking a hob?

Go with the Octopus. Once you get a good skimmer, you can ditch the canister filter.
