I use the ro water from my local supermarket and mix with the instant ocean salt in the purple box.

that salt mix is fine. Not super high quality stuff, but its not bad either.
You should get a TDS meter to make sure that the supermarket is changing their membranes for the RO/DI filter. You can get cheap on ebay for around $10 and be sure to the calibration fluid. You should have a reading of 10 ppm or less.

my lfs has a bunch of different salt mixes I just grabbed that one because the box caught my attention. What brand do you recommend I get once I use that stuff up?

I have used Red Sea Coral Salt Pro to good success, but really that salt mix is fine.
