OT: Sand Question

Sorry but I didnt know what forum to put this into. My question is can I take live sand from my tank and give some to a friend of mine for his tank. He currently has gravel, its a small Fluval cube 5-8 gallons maybe.

It should work.
If your sand is already colonized by beneficial bacteria then the portion you give your friend will eventually colonize the rocks and gravel in his tank.

Stirring up that sand will dreadge up all the nasty stuff in the sandbed which in turn may lead to extremely poor water quality for both you & your friend. Your friend should just buy a bag of live sand & save you both alot of trouble, but to answer your question...yes your sand could populate his tank.

One cup of sand wont hurt anything, it wont have that much crud in it, and it will be much more live than a bag of live sand.

+1 fish...a SMALL amount like that should do no harm as far as "crud" is concerned. LOL!!!
