powerhead?

I have a 40 breeder tank, no sump yet. & would like to not have so much of the equipment hanging on the back & visible.

Without getting a sump, how can I set up powerheads that are only the black pvc looking tubes coming into the tank? I have seen these at the LFS & would like the similar feature. A small pvc pipe (or the similar) would look a ton better than the huge powerhead in the tank. Thanks for your help! :)

Those tanks are likely a closed loop system, which means they are drilled and have a pump at the back, which then returns the water through all those black PVC tubes, in a loops.

Does it look like this?

A closed loop tank still needs to be drilled, and still needs a sump (or a special compartment for the loop pump).

I disagree. It doesnt need to be drilled, but you would have pipe going up and over the tank side. Which IMO, would look worse than one or two power heads. Look into the hydor koralia pumps. The look better than just square black boxes

Also, many LFS plumb the tanks together. Makes it easier for maintanance on them

I have seen external pumps didn't know if that would work?
