You should use RO water, not tap water. Tap water can contain heavy metals and nutrients that fuel algae growth. A tap water conditioner doesn't remove these things. You can buy your own RODI unit for $125 to $150, and it plumbs in under your sink. If you don't want to make your own RODI water, you can buy it bottled at the grocery store or Walmart.
