Sandbed

This is what my sandbed looks like. Ive also got this neon green algae growing on my rocks and shells that are on the sandbed. What should i do? By the way i just added quite a bit of chaeto to my sump today. I'm hoping this will help with the green algae.

the red stuff looks like your basic cyano. Increase flow, syphon out, maintain water quality. That cheato you added will help alot. The green looks like the lime green beginnings of corraline type algae.

You can also cut your lights out for 3 or 4 days to help get a head start on it.

Ive heard that i want the light for my cheato on at night time when the DT lights are off. Why is this?

Thats to balance your pH but really isn't that much of an issue. I leave my cheato lights on the sump on 24/7

Do you have any sand sifting critters? Those will help.

I have 2 nass snails and a sand sifting star. I think i need more snails

Definitely more Nass Snails would help. Depending on the size of them I'd have 10-15 of them in a 55 gallon.

I had a huge problem with the cyano in my tank. I turned down the amount of time my lights were on, switched to RODI water, siphoned the sand with cleanings and changed my Koralia 1's to Koralis 3's and it has REALLY helped. The tank looks much better now. I do have crabs, turbo snails and nass snails everywhere.
