or should i just use gfo? is one more effective?
should i run bio pellets in my gfo reactor?

You will have a hard time getti g the correct tumbling for bio pellets in a lot of GFO reactors. As far as being more effective, they do two totally different things. GFO filters out phosphates, whole bio pellets remove nitrates as well as a small amount of phosphates

i have the brs dual reactor. should i instead run gfo in the gfo side and bio pellets in the carbon side?

No, as North said, you will have a hard time getting the correct tumbling. In a dual reactor, you should use GFO and carbon.

I've played around with several reactors to get my bio-pellets running on my 180 - they really should only be run in reactors that have been specifically designed for them
If you have the dual reactor from BRS, I would run it as it was intended, with carbon in one chamber and GFO in the other. I forget the order, but I am sure the instructions from BRS include the correct order to run the media in
