Substrate Depth

Reefer Madness
I was wondering what would be a good depth for my substrate, I am going with sand for my substrate. I would like to keep a goby and and maybe a pistol shrimp. Regardless of that what would be a good depth for a sand bed.

Thanx fo any input.

I like mine to range from about a 1/2" in the low spots to about 1-1.5" in the high spots. Definitely no more than 2".

It also depends on certain animals you might want to have, if you want any wrasses that sleep in your sandbed or sand dwelling anemones I would go with at least 3". But, for most tanks, 1-2" deep is the norm.

With my Goby I have 4 inches over here and then 1/2 over there.

That fool is always making mounds and stuff. He actually clears around the outline of the rocks and then all the corals and clam.

I go in and flatten it all out and in one days the entire 220Gal tank is back to mounds.

He doesn't stop 24/7 sand eating.
