sump question...

is a 20 gal sump overkill for my 40 gal breeder?

not sure should i just wait to get bigger tank before setting up my 20gal sump? and whats the best way to keep temp down with MH lighting? any input appreciated.

No it's not overkill. The increased water volume will help maintain the water temp. Are you using a glass hood? You can add a fan to blow across the surface of the water to help with the heat.
 
we have had great success using 20 gallon sumps under our 40 breeder reef setup's....as far as the MH lighting goes Aquarian would be right on that matter...if your using a glass top of any kind remove it and shoot the breeze from a fan across the top of the tank and you should be good to go

i do have thick glass top, will get a fan going and remove it. And thinking ill try to get the sump going today also. thank you for the replies.

With the evaporative cooling you're going to see a lot more evaporation (obviously).

Its the best way to keep your tank cool but just be sure to have lots of top off water handy.
