testing necessity

Reefing newb
I have 28 gallon JBJ 186 watt HQI 2.5yo tank, overall tank has been doing quite well- the only parameters I have been testing for routinely are alk, pH, calcium.I do not test for phos as no severe algae issues in sometime although I was when I had hair algae problem over a year ago. I dont test for mag - I use reef advanatge calium which states it maintains mag levels. I do not think I have excessive alk or calcium needs to make me think I have a low Mag level, I do not test for nitrates routinely any more. I do do weekly 4 gallon water changes with instant ocean and distilled water. Overall I feel my tank is doing well but sometimes reading these posts I feel that I am being lazy and monitoring more parameters. Would appreciate any comments

+1 Sarah. I also don't see the need to test regularly for those other params if everything is doing fine. I only test when something is off or if its just seems like its been too long since my last full spectrum test.

+2 Biff...to be quite honest, I don't test for anything anymore really. I do my weekly water changes and have the lfs check my levels once a month.
