when to do your 1st water change then how often ?

After your cycle is over and then it can depend on your tank and equipment (Skimmer? Algae Scrubber? Sump?). I try to do at least 5 gallons every two weeks. Every now and then I will get mad at it and to a 10 gallon change.

Most people do 10 to 20% of the tank's volume once a week or every other week.

I agree with biff.. i do mine everyother week at 20%... Was doing it every week then let it go a few times saw no change over 2 weeks so stuck with evryother week changes...

I do 20% every other week. In the rare event that I happen to miss a week, I just do it the next.
