Water Pump Q ????

Hello everyone!

Like some of you know, Im on my way to re-build my 55 and 30g salt water reef tanks. The 30 gal long is mostly finished and is a display refugium with some live rock, macro algae and one red mangrove, I'll be posting pictures soon. The thing is that I want the display refugium tank and the reef tank to be connected by a 20g sump with some live rock. All the water from both tanks goes there for "biological filtration" and I need 2 water pumps to return it, one for the DT and the other for the RDT. Which water pump do you suggest?? How much flow rate or gph am i looking for??

are the two tanks going to be sitting side by side? reason I ask is if the 30 was going to sit lower then the 55 I would use one pump ( less electricity ) and run it past the refugium first with a ball valve to control the flow to that tank then run the pump to the main tank with the rest of the flow..

Thanks a lot for the idea, is more convenient. But what kind of pump should I use then? how much gph?

I only run about 50 gph through my 30 gal refugium with a 250 gph power head in it. figure you want the water in it as long as possible to let the macro do its job.. then the 55 you want to turn over up to 10 times per hour.. so I would suggest maybe a mag7 would work for you ..Aquarium Water Pumps: Supreme Classic Mag Drive Pump
