What type of heater should I use for a 37g reef, 10g sump.. how many watts would be ideal?.. Im also looking for something 12'' in length or less. thanks

I think the most commonly bought and liked are the Eheim Jager ones.
Titanium ones come quite well recommended too.

I'd plan about 200 watts total. The general concept is to split the wattage between two heaters. This gives you redundancy so if one fails or sticks on you are less likely to chill or boil your tank before you can do something about it.

Heaters are about the least trusted piece of equipment. Most serious aquarium owners do not trust them much farther than they can throw them, and therefore control them with some other more reliable device.

My heaters are controlled by an STC 1000 which require electrical wiring experience but there are several devices available which are designed for the purpose.
