Where do I go from here?

Wow,those people were cruel.
I had a successful reef for over 5 years with just a skimmer,PCs and a couple of powerheads.You can have a successful reef with what you have now.

I am running even skinnier on my 90. 3 powerheads, HOB filters and lots of LR - NO SKIMMER. light bio-load and I am in business. Take your time and enjoy the hobby. there will always be something more you can do to your tank. just be careful it is what you want. obviously with premium equipment and set up you can have more fish and even more risky fish, but you can have a great tank with what you have.
