Oh my, I just read that....what an EFFING little b*tch!!!! Not to mention a$$hole parents! If it were my teenage kid, I would have whupped the cr@p out of her for first of all, disrespecting other people by stealing, and then not leaving things alone. You know damn well she did not put that air freshener in there just cuz it "smelled" funny....she put it in there to be stupid. And even if "eels are bad snakes" as they think, it doesn't matter...it's not their tank. Man, I feel for ya, Sharkie. It was sad enough to lose the shark, but to have this li'l girl step in and do that mess.

thanks, we found a 55gl here that a guy is willing to give me a really good deal on that my parents might buy me for now so that i can at least start the water and cycling everything....
and then my cousin will have to remburse me for all the costs... I talked to an officer today and they said that if she was willing to pay the damage costs to the carpet (this is a brand new house too Dx), pay for my class/book she ruined, and the $1200 that was invested into the tank then there wouldn't be a huge charge against her, more against her parents and that they would have some sort of fine to pay as well. Plus she will have stealing on her file, even if shes a minor at least they are going to make her do that!! He was nice, apparently his sister-in-law is a biology major and he was talking to her about it and she told him to fix my problem for me BEFORE christmas :) so he had me add up the costs of my class, book, and everything that was in the tank and it totaled around $1700. $280 for the class, $128 for the book, and then the rest was the tank, equipment, and all the fish/corals in it. I still added everything that i could save into the price becuase i dont know how much longer/if they are going to last. and that way I can buy kona some big fatty crablegs when he feels better! thats the least the poor guy can get
that little bit of news has made me feel a smidge better, Kona is still down in the dumps but i'm just happy hes eating a bit for me, 1 silverside is nothing for him, but at least hes trying... i'm scared to leave him for the weekend.. but i know hes in good hands with my siblings, they have grown to love the lil dude too

Wow sharkie. I just got to the bad part of this thread. I'm so sorry about your tank and the devistation your cousin has caused you. Hopefully Kona is strong enough to pull through. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Best of luck with the rebuild.:D

Thank god for fellow reef lovers! Glad they're finally going to pay up. Maybe the parents will actually make their own kid take some accountability, since they'll be out nearly $2000. Good for you!

I've just sat here reading that for the past 30 minutes Sharkie.And the entire time,I could feel the steam pressure building.
13 years old or not,I'd have ripped her head off.Then I would have went after her parents.But I'm hot headed anyhow.
A few months ago,my sister in law was over with her kids.But she's a lot like that brats parents,her kids do no wrong.They kept wanting to play around my tank.I asked them to leave it alone once,there mother didnt say anything.
The 2nd time I told them to get out of my bedroom and away from my tank,she still said nothing.The 3rd time my belt came off and kids got their asses tore up.She got up and took her kids home and hasnt been back.Which is perfectly fine with me becuase I cant stand her no way.

Haha...you go, Yote! Any kids who come into my house know it's my way or the high way. I make it clear I don't care what they do in their own home, but I have my own rules or they're out...and luckily, all their parents are the type of the same attitude "My house, my rules" so I have good back up support if their kids act up in my house, and likewise if mine act out in theirs. It's parents who look away that end up having bullies for kids.

well heres my last post for the next few days, I'm off to disneyland after lots of instructions to the fam on how to make sure everythings going alright with the tank and to keep feeding kona-kuns. he still is a bit discolored but last night he ate 5 silversides instead of his previous 2 :) which means he seems to be getting better!!

Hello all!! I have returned from my crazy trip/work weekend and have some AWESOME news!!
First off I passed my math class which was a miracle, i suck at math.... and it means I am able to move out for the next spring semester!!! (2011 that is)
secondly my trip was FANTASTIC! we are going again in the spring to do everything we possibly can in 1-2 days so we can ride everything and enjoy less crowds

and thirdly, the moment you've all been waiting for... KONA IS ALIVE AND I GET A NEW TANK!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
so over the weekend my dad talked to several police officers, my aunt and uncle, and they had to pay for EVERYTHING! They gave me cash and I will be purcashing a new tank after christmas when all the prices are back down to normal... and I got brand new carpet in my room! I am so so so happy.... all the levels in my tank are good but it seems the only problem I have is cyano, not sure how it got there but its def the least of my worries :) everyone is alive, i get a new tank and all new equipment, and extra money to spend on it!! :D It made my week so much better to come home and find that out! :D
and i think probably the best news of all for me is that my professor gave me a B in the class even tho all my work was GONE!! I guess because i was always giving him papers and things with updates that maybe he was cool enough to let me get a B without my final which was supposed to be 50% of my grade :D woot wooooot!
