Red Algea

Nothing has ever gotten caught up in mine. Not a fish, snail, shrimp, nothing. The only fish that should ever get caught in one was near death or dead already.

I lost a mandrin and a porcilin crab in my aquaclear 50 when I had it. I returned it shortly there after and bought some MJ's no problem since.

OUCH..that means they had to use a 10" scaple and cut it to half..poor s13..form now on he will pee from a foley cathether..

Damn you guys are cruel! That must've hurt, huh Redline? Hopefully the NWKRC won't be one member down at the next meeting... Get it? Member? Hahahahahaha!

I'm still getting red algea. I can't understand why when all my reading are good.

PH 8.2
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Calcium 400
Iodine .06
Alk 4.0
Salinity 1.024

I switched to RO water and stopped feeding. Turned light off for a few days do water changes and I'm still getting red algea. Any ideas of what else I can try?

I'm guessing phosphates? Try using a filter media such as RowaPhos or PhosBan and see if that helps clear it up. Also move your powerheads around so that they are aimed at the algae areas.

post a pic if you can so we can be sure.

If it is cyano and you are getting desperate, you can get a product called chemiclean and that is reef safe. Your corals will be pissed at your for about 3 days, but they will make it. Be careful though and not use it too much, cyano will eventually develop a resistance to chemiclean and it will no longer be effective. The first time you try it, your tank will be clean in about 2 days. Vacuum up as much cyano as you can before adding it to the tank.

I also would add phosguard to your sump (if you have one) to reduce the phosphate levels in your tank.

Upload it into the photo gallery first by clicking on "Photo Gallery" tab up top, then hit upload. Once it is uploaded, paste the BB image code into your post.

Took me awhile to figure this out. Hope this is right.

that is not any cyano that I have ever seen. Looks like coralline algae to me. Nothing to worry about. That is the stuff you want covering your rocks.

Piggy,
That looks like cyno. When you do a water change, vaccume as much of out as you can.Cut back on feeding, switch to frozen foods if you havent already, and try going 2 or 3 days with the lights off.

ya think? I have not seen that color before. I guess it could be. my mistake if it is cyano. listen to Yote if you are worried, especially if it comes back fast after you vacuum it up.
