How far does the LR have to be from the rear of the tank? I have read that 4 inches is a good number to allow for proper flow behind the rock. On the other hand, I have seen pics of some nice tanks where the LR appears to be almost touching the rear glass

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I am going to try the Reef Crystals. My LFS prices are reasonable, so I will just by it their. The IO bucket I bought last time was $33 I think, so I imagine the Reef Crystals may be closer to $40 for the 160gal bucket.

How do I set up a powerhead? Do I need to buy the powerhead, position it and plug it in or to I need other equipment besides the powerhead?

Only a small amount of LR. It has been in the tank for about 6wks. As far as I know the only life on the rock is the coraline algae. I have never seen any other life coming from the rock.
