    Light for Hexagonal tank

My aunt owns a 75g hexagonal tank and is looking for a decent light upgrade. She is more into fish than corals but is looking to get a few softies like mushrooms or polyps. Anyone know of a decently priced light fixture that doesnt need to stand on the aquarium edge. She has glass on the top of...

    Im conceding..

I RO water for filling and saltwater from LFS that ive tested. Have a small clump of chaeto in fuge with lights on all the time. I thaw frozen food out then dump water and feed prolly every 4 days, afraid to overfeed and feed algae, poor hungry fish.... Tank is over a year old, prolly a...

    Im conceding..

Conceding my tank to the hair algae, been fighting it for about 4 months now. Water changes of 20% every week and a half to two weeks, Marine SAT, phosphate media, chemi pure elite, testing all the time, removing all my rock and scrubbing them in salwater, trying to get every bit of hair algae...

    Replacing bulbs

thanks to both of you. Any thoughts on whether to keep with the 2 super actinics and 2 10ks or use something else?

Waging a war with hair algae...

ive been waging a bit of a hair algae war the last month or so as well. Been removing rocks and scrubbing them in bucket with saltwater in it and running chemi pure elite in my fuge. Seems to be cutting back on it a bit. Ive got some Marine SAT ordered since the chemi pure is kind of...

    Replacing bulbs

I have the 48" nova extreme t5 HO fixture and am looking to replace bulbs again. Its right to replace about every 6 months right? Also instead of going with the same 2 super actinics and 2 10k bulbs should i be looking into other bulbs instead? The guy at one of my LFS's mentioned getting...

    new fish arriving tomorrow!

they are very tricky, like super fast spiders.... might try baiting him, i never did but thought about it after the fact... might take two people , one to move rocks and one to net them. They are def not easy to capture.

    Fish combo?

i already have the lawnmower, I just saw the diamond watcher blenny at the LFS and it seemed to be a really nice sand sifter and was hilarious how he moved chunks of sand at a time in his mouth. My lawnmower spends most of his time in the rockwork so i dont think they will have territory issues.

    Fish combo?

Is it a bad idea to have a lawnmower blenny and say a watchman goby together ? my tank is a 55 and I've read that the blenny doesnt like fish that look similar to him.

    new fish arriving tomorrow!

to add to the negativity I would get rid of those sally lightfoot, they can be horrible predators for the smaller fish in the aquarium. I got one that was quite large and in the coming month or so had a few "disappearances" with no one to blame except the sally.

    How to kill live rock?

yea thankfully it didnt start a new cycle, my three fish friends have seemed totally unaffected. They swim around and feed like ravenous wild dogs, I just want to make the tank a much prettier place for them.

    How to kill live rock?

thanks a bunch, Ive already done that process once. Took all the rocks out of the tank and scrubbed them under the sink to get rid of hair algae. I guess ive wiped out my live rock, which explains the high nitrates i guess. Oh well i didnt pay that much for it, guess ill get tank back in line...

    How to kill live rock?

would scrubbing it under tap water be a death sentence? I dont use tap water in my system, but was thinking it would be easiest to filter the kitchen sink off and scrub it under the faucet..

    How to kill live rock?

Hi all, havent posted in a while, but ive been lurking! Sorry for the misleading title, I just have a quick question....What is the possibility of live rock "dying" if I take it out of the aquarium to give it a good scrubbing? Im trying to get my hair algae under control and having a tough go...

    Rainer's 55!

well as of now I found a nice spot for both my little shrooms and just turned off the powerhead above them. I think i still have enough flow with my fuge return and the powerhead on the other end until they attach. Tho i may try just putting them in a little cup on some rubble if this doesnt work

    Rainer's 55!

heh i just want it to attach to something! It will be a while before i get the courage up to start wacking away at my stuff  though i do appreciate it and it loooks like an awesome way to grow my mushrooms :D

    Rainer's 55!

Additions :) question.... I got that little mushroom for next to nothing, but im not sure how these things work. Should they attach themselves to a rock somewhere? to sand? I had to turn a powerhead off just so he wouldnt fly around the tank and get sucked up....Im not sure how to...
