Help - I now have Red & Green Bubble Algae

I thought green bubble algae (valonia) came in several shapes, including sausage shapes. I'm told Emerald crabs eat them, although I can't get them in New Zealand so I don't know. Desjardini Tangs are also supposed to eat valonia. I increased my Magnesium gradually to about 1350, kept my kH up...

Help - I now have Red & Green Bubble Algae

I had the worst plague of Green bubble Algae (Valonia) on the planet! There were BILLIONS everywhere and I use to laugh when people told me to pick them out! In New Zealand we cant get emerald crabs, so this is what I did. I added phosguard in to my sump in case that was the issue. I raised my...

    Red Sea Mg Test

Hiya I get it to go to blue from purple with as little as one extra drop of solution C but I don't use the needle on the end as it takes too long to get enough solution C in to change it, and it changes fast. When it does go blue, read the amount that's left in the syringe as per instructions...

    Lieutenant Tang

Actual Yes. My new Lieutenant tang had developed brown speckled patches over his body. He was obviously itchy and he was scratching and flicking in the sand. I caught him and put him in a quarantine tank for 3 weeks dosing with copper. It went away and I returned him to the main tank and he's...

I had a similar algae problem with slimy brown stringy algae. I turned my lights off for 48hrs (didn't hurt the corals) and installed a U.V. light filter. It went and hasn't come back.

How do i get rid of ich I do not have enough money to set up a quarantine tank?

I haven't got any answers for you, just questions to those who have answered! If you take all the fish out, treat them for a number of weeks in a Q tank and then put them back into the main tank which hasn't been treated because of the corals, won't they just get it again because the ick is...

Fighting tangs 3 weeks (or so) ago I did what the books say not to do and got a yellow tang about 2 weeks after getting a purple tang. The purple immediately started beating up the yellow. About a week and a half ago I caught the purple tang and he's living in the sump (I've put some rock etc...

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about a plague of stringy brown slimy algae throughout my tank. I got lots of different suggestions. (My water chemistry was great with zero nasties). After turning the lights off for 48 hrs and adding a UV light filter, my brown algae problem has gone and it's been...

    Lieutenant Tang

My new Lieutenant tang has developed brown speckled patches over his body. After about 2 days I finally managed to catch him and he is now in a quarantine tank dosed with copper. That was about 2 days ago and it seems to have spread more across his body, but he is eating. Should I be doing...

    Fighting Tangs

Thanks ltljoker. Yeah it's my purple that is mean and he's smaller than the placid yellow!?. I have had my lights off for 2 days to help deal with an algae problem so that should help with this too. I'm going to keep the division in for 2 weeks and then maybe cut bigger holes in the divider for...
