thinking about getting one for a 40 gallon breeder. saw one at the LFS and the way it cleaned look impressive. it basically looked brownish-greenish. should asked the type. anyways, anyone have experience with these? is a 40 too small to keep one? just trying to fill out my CUC

my tank was filled with sand and water yesterday, and today, i placed in the first pieces of live rock. my questions are: should i be dosing the tank at this time for the live rock? the filter only has filter wool in it for now to remove particulates. should i add in carbon?
