Honestly I am not sure what you mean. I haven't added any rock in about about 2 months. When I added the rock, I just kind of placed it in the tank. When I brought the rock from my LFS it was wrapped in a cloth if thats what you mean..

My light fixture holds only two bulbs. I may have to eat the cost of the light fixture I have to get one that holds 4 bulbs. And yes it is a 40g tank.
