55g support

I have a standard 55 g glass tank I will be adding about 40 lbs of sand and 50 to 60 lbs of rock. Should I brace the bottom of the glass the stand only supports around the edges of the tank nothing in the middle except for the black plastic strip on the bottom side of the glss riht in the center?

First off, welcome to the forum!

I feel like the stand should be able to support the aquarium. However, bracing it would be ideal, and would ensure maximum support.

Thanks for the speedy reply but I'm not worried about the stand but rather the glass itself

Some people use the pink sheets of insulation from Home Depot to help support the glass. But, with that being said the tanks are designed to handle the weight we put in them if they weren't I'm sure the tank manufacturers would have changed up that plastic trim a long time ago.

hey thanks for the advice... this is the first time I've put this much extra weight in a tank

It will be able to hold it. They are built to withstand the weight inside of them. A gallon of saltwater weights about 8 1/2 lbs.
