Dead Derasa Clam

Smitty

Reef pro
I'm sad to report that my newly acquired derasa clam has died...:frustrat: I had moved him last night on a higher rock to be closer to the light, and noticed today that he was starting to deteriorate(sp?)...I just read that if moved while their foot is attached to the rock, their foot could be ripped off or damaged, which will cause death...I feel so bad!

Sorry to hear that Smitty.
And your right about their foot. You have to be extremely careful when moving a clam.If the foot is injured or torn, the calm will die.

That sucks, Smitty. I know how excited you were about that clam...

Tip for the future: if you want to move an animal with a foot (clam, anemone, etc) take a clean butter knife from the kitchen, and gently press on the foot with it. They hate the feel of the metal and will usually let go of the rock very quickly and easily.
