Does anyone use this filter? Everytime power is taken away from the head it's a guessing game if the impellor is going to start again. I make sure it's clean but still it's a pain. Just wondering if it's a an over priced piece or defective. Ehiem's tech support is pretty shotty in helping.

I've used an Eheim pump in my sump for 5+ years now and never had a problem. It is generally a very good brand. How old is yours? It shouldn't be acting up like that.

About a year and a half now. If you looked at it you'd think it's straight out of the box.

Have you ever tried soaking it in a 1/2 white vinegar, 1/2 water mixture overnight? How, and how often, do you clean it?

No. Every 6mos. Scheduled. Unless there's a problem, anytime I've lost power I have to go through trying to get it running again so it pretty much gets cleaned then as well. At least every 3mos. it's been looked at

I had that same problem with a mag pump. So I got a diffrent one and not that is going to be a back up. I did notice that some of the interal houseing was cracked on mine. It looked like these were the pieces that held the impellor in the proper place. Look real good where the impellor is maybe that is the problem
