The rubber band trick doesn't always work because the coral will "slime" it's way out the band. With the needle and thread, just stick the needle thru the base of the coral (it won't hurt it), and wrap it around the rock rubble a few times.

Any certain type of thread to use? Just like sewing thread? Fishing line?

Sewing thread works fine. Once the coral attaches, you can trim off the ends of the thread.

you can use a plastic "toothpick" through the base of any leather---then rubberband the toothpick/leather combo to plug/rubble--in a week or two remove toothpick and rubberband--walla--leather frag!
