Glass under metal halides

I need to know what thickness of tempered glass to put under my halides for UV protection. My plan is to set the glass on the inner lip of the aquarium, leaving a one inch gap in the back for cords and feeding the tank. Is this lip enough to support the glass?
Thanks all!

I woul assume 1/8 of an inch would be fine, the thicker you go the more UV will be prevented from penetrating. If it was me i would go with 1/4. Just to be safe. IMHO anything over that is overkill. Im not sure of your exact tank measurements if you are doing this for your 10 or your 60 but if its a big span you could always rig up a support in the middle. Just an added plastic piece that goes from front to back of your tank.
