Intruders from below (sump dwellers)

I noticed this little guy hanging on to the wall on my sump tank, he looks like a grain of rice with roots on one end and a feather duster looking hat. I've also noticed a few on one piece of live rock i have in there.

any insight to what it might be would be awesome

either pineapple sponges or q-tip sponges. Both filter feeders and good for your tank

Yep, they are sponges. They're also called scypha sponges. No need to worry about them -- they are harmless!

Those things are EVERYWHERE!! in my sump. Started out as one and now there are hundreds! None in my DT though.

it seems they come & go in waves. I had a bunch, then overnight, they were gone.

Just last nigth I noticed I have a few qtip's growing on some LR the my pagoda coral is attached to. I've only read posts on here that say they are in the sumps/fuge area, but I guess they can show up anywhere.

I've killed many of them by accident when I would take out my lr to rearrange them or to catch mean fish :)

yea i've got a mess of thoes same things in my overflow box...

I squished one between my fingers thinking it was some sort of salt creep. That was gross.
