Is this coral?

Just wondering what might be growing underneath my texas holey rock, the first picture it looks like some type of shell? My serpant starfish is hanging next to it so don't mind him! :) It's been there for about 5-6 months.




Second growth is on my liverock, just wondering what type of coral this could be?

The first -- I don't know. That's weird looking!

The second isn't a coral. It's caterpillar weed (a type of algae), neomeris annulata.

What is the swirly around the caterpillar weed?
It looks like a snail shell but it isnt, I have plenty of those around my tank! lol

The caterpillar weed I had all over my tank. I thought it was cool looking! Someone told me that it feeds on the calcium in the tank so when I moved I made sure to scrub all the rocks of it :)

So you are asking about the purple-ish cone thing, not the caterpillar weed? Sorry! I misunderstood. It sure looks like a snail shell to me. Is it attached to the rock? Does it move? I'm confused! :rofl:

Haha no problem, no it doesnt move and yes it does look like a snail shell but its attached to it. Thats why I thought maybe coral?!
It looks sort of like what a rose pedal would look like. Thats the shape anyway.
