what's the difference between electronic and HQI? the description for mine says: 2x External 250W Electronic HQI Metal Halide Ballast with Power Switch
An electronic ballast guts have the ignitor and ballast as 1 electronic (digital) part. It's electronic components make it alot lighter than a standard probe start magnetic (M58) or a magnetic HQI (M80) ballast.
An electronic ballast will fire any bulb including HQI bulbs, but if you use European bulbs like a Radium, the HQI ballast runs them at the proper lamp current and you get better performance and longer life out of the bulb. True HQI ballasts are magnetic. A ballast is either electronic/digital or magnetic (M58-probe start, M80-HQI, M130-pulse start).
