Oily film?

50 bucks prolly isn't bad for both. That is a bit small for a 55 gal I would think. I would be looking at more like 500 gph return pump and a 600gph overflow box.

Overflows seem pretty expensive on foster and smith. What price range should i expecting for a box that size?

Depends on the brand. I spent 150 bucks on a CPR overflow with an aqualifter pump. I did that after I had so many trouble with the eshopps syphon tube type. I don't mind spending the extra dough to keep my floors dry.

I've overflowed my tank twice, almost a third time, and finally I think I have it overflow proofed. Now I just gotta stop leaving the RO/DI filter running overnight hehe.

Haha, I called the guy and he says its 600 to 800 GPH with the u tube but doesent know the brand.

I wonder if I put that Rio 1400 on my skimmer if that would improve it. Not sure whats on there right now.

It would be worse. The coralife skimmer uses a special wheel on the pump to create the foam so the rio would not work at all.

I used to run one of those overflows.Even with a slow return pump,it would take care of the oily film.

Thats your basic overflow box right there. Almost exactly an eshopps overflow. Your gonna have fun with that syphon tube :)

Hmm. Maybe I should wait and save for a good one. Have you had any problems with youre CPR?

How did you have problems with you eshopps VA? Only problem I've ever had with mine is noise. Got that fixed after beating my head in the wall for 2 days. Turns out an air line tube does the trick. I've tested mine several times by cutting power. Heck I do it every time I do a water change. Thing works great.
