Possible Small Refugium Set-Up

Hey forum,

I was wondering if it would be worth it to set up a small refugium for my 20 gallon. The dimensions would be roughly 11x11x10 and would sit right below the DT so the head loss would be about 2 ft. I'm currently just running a HOB filter + chemi-pure and and I would like some place to add purigen, cheato, bad inhabitants, ect. The main reason for the post is just wondering if it was worth it since the refugium would be so minuscule. The tank is doing fine by at itself and I'd hate to mess up anything.

For the potential overflow, it would be a DIY PVC overflow ( DIY MAME-style PVC overflow - Nano-Reef.com Forums ) and maybe a Maxijet 1200 for the return. Again, this is all hypothetical as of the moment.

IMO any way you can increase water volume is good, and it would give you better water quality if you could get some cheato growing in there.

I think even a small fuge is better than no fuge. Chaeto doesn't need a ton of space, either.

I'm thinking of doing 2 compartments: one for the media and another as the return section.

Eshopps makes a nano overflow box and you can use a ten gallon tank tank for a sump/fuge
