Proper install of plastic return nozzle?

Hey guys im new here and just setting up my first saltwater tank, ive got a wet dry for a FOWLR set up im setting up.
Im just curious as to how these plastic return nozzles are supposed to sit. ive seen many tanks with them all different ways. i obviously want the little hole drilled into it not too far below the water of my tank so it doesn't overflow my filter in the event of a power failure. could always drill a hole higher up if needed though.
It didnt come with any suction cups or anything so idk what the intended placement of this is.

Thats what i figured but wasnt positive.

is there a certain way to securely fix it to the aquarium? like i said i didnt get any suction cups or anything with it

The weight of the return line connected to it will keep it in place. If you are using vinyl hose for a return line heat the end up in a cup of water and push it on to the barb fitting. This will make it a lot easier and give you a nice firm fit.
