Replacing individual led's

I am planning to replace maybe half the led's in each of the four units I have. The lights use the non-star diodes and I'll be replacing them with the same type. I am new to soldering so I'm not sure if I have to completely remove the old solder from both sides of each led or can I just heat up each one enough to pull he old one off and then stick the new diode down onto new thermal grease and put some new solder over the old? Would also like to watch a video or read a DIY on this but can't seem to find any using the non-star type of diodes.

I'm no expert but I love to tinker. You only need to heat it enough to remove the old chip. Then like you said new thermal grease and solder. Good luck it can be nerve wracking working on such small connections.

I'm going to practice on some old piece I can find laying around. I plan to replace about half the led's on each one so that's about 80 all together. Each light will have 10 white, 20 blue, 6 UV, 2 red and 2 green.
