I just picked one of these guys up today. I acclimated him for an hour and a half. When I placed him in the tank he let off a white gooey substance from the crown of his shell. WTF is that? He was moving around the tank and doing it as well. Is he suddenly melting internally, throwing baby juice, or is this some weird stress related defense system?

When my urchins poop it's like a white power or sandy looking substance. It's never been gooey but, could possibly be stress from the move.

Well, I just checked on him, and now is is up at the top of the tank, so he's been motoring around all night. I guess it was just a stress thing.
