Reefing newb
Got my tank up and running last night. Well got the skimmer powerheads lights heater and rock in. Its 55g and last night my wife and I picked up the live rock. I have a total of 100lb of hawaian, fiji, buna, and the branch. I hooked up with an importer in socal. Super nice guy with lots of advice and said not to hesitate in calling him with any questions. He needed some landscaping advice and that was my profession for years so we swaped info. All the rock for 160.00 not to bad. So what do you guys think? Any suggestions? I can't wait for everything to cycle. water is clearing now after less than 24hrs. How long does it normaly take for things to clear up. Also any good threads out there on sump design. I can get a 20 gal tank for free and was think about building one. any way please let me know what you think.

you got a great deal on the rock.... the tank will clear up in a couple more days.. as far as sump design there is quite a few posts about them under the DIY section of the forums... any questions feel free to ask away someone will be sure to help out... oh and it is looking great so far..

That's an insane deal on the rock! My 75 took a couple days to clear up completely. Have you added anything to start your cycle?

Added some small fish 2 and placed them on the sand. The guy I bought the rock from gave me them plus a rock from his sump with all kinds of pods on it

Please return the fish, you never ever cycle your tank with living creatures. Ammonia and nitrites are toxic and will either kill your fish or severely damage their bodies and shorten their life span.

Just toss in a piece of table shrimp.

Sorry I didn't mention they are little dead fish. Like feeder fish. No living fish here. Just dead raw fish placed in the sand

Here are some pics from this morning starting to get clearer. I have noticed alot of sand has setteled on the rock. I tried to make caves and holes in as many places as possible. I want all the livestock to enjoy the tank and have as many places to explore as possible. Should i be blowing that off?

Looks great! Just make sure those rocks are stable! If they arent you can connect them with zip ties. Rock slides are bad news is glass tanks :)

And you can blow the sand off if you like, but it isnt a must
