what the heck is my hermit doing

I know hermits a weird little critters anyhow......but I have one large one that does handstands...........yes folks handstands, he will stand on his fron two claws and then lift his shell almost all the way off .....he only does this at night after the tank lights are off.....I tried getting pictures but the crappy digital I have could not get it.....

so what the heck is he doing???
